I don't know what is with Edict in being a story that has been a bear to write, a bear to edit, and I'm still not entirely happy with it. I'm like 80% happy with it. The novel does what I want, but then it doesn't. There are things about it that bothers me.
In reading and editing back over it, I've come to the conclusion it's a very somber novel. While Hy'Ruh-Ha was hopeful, Edict has hope and triumph there, it is still a somber novel. And I don't want to change that. I don't know if it is an attractive thing this day and age. Where it seems, it's either escapism or nothing at all in fantasy. You can't have somber things. You can have grimdark, though it confused me.
Anyway, this version of Edict was written after my dad died, so that might be the reason for it. While I didn't grieve like Soletus, I will admit that it did influence the way I wrote him. His up and downs. And how, not a single thing really brings you out. Time and learning to move on does. And I didn't want him to move on quickly.
As for Mien, he had had to grow up fast, if you have not noticed. However, in growing, he's turning into the priest I imagined back in 2015. Soletus has a little more growing to be that monk I know he can be.
Overall, I am happy with the changes that I've added to it.
So what am I doing now?
Ignore my old pen name. However, that is the next novel I'm going to be editing. The Monk and the Princess is part of the collection titled Changes. The reason I have a printed copy is that I found that it is the best method for editing. I invested in a laser printed last year so I didn't have to send my manuscripts to be printed by Lulu. They do bind, and printing from home lacks that. I need to find my hole puncher and get a three ring binder for this. However, I'm going to be reading through this story, marking my changes and then applying it. There are no hard rewrites planned here. Just sprucing up. However, that means I'm going to be on radio silence here. I may post some artwork and other things. I have to see.
However, I'm expecting to start posting again until July. Looking at my calendar, let's just say July 18th where I will pop out of the wood work. By then I should have some of the things I've been drafting for months in some stage of completion.
What about the EPUB versions of Hy'Ruh-Ha, Crossroads, and Edict?
I found a way to do it. I just need to set aside time for more cleaning of those stories. Unless folks don't mind the dyslexic mistakes. Which I get the impression people do more than they claim they don't. However, I want to go through the stories once more before I make a version. And to do that, I need my drafts squared away. So it's coming. I just need time.
So to summarize. Edict was a job, I'm editing Changes, the EPUB versions are coming, and I will return on or after July 18th. The same week of the release of Oppenheimer. I really want to watch it in theaters, but it's going to be a long movie because Christopher Nolan. I am listening to his biography, American Prometheus currently. It's interesting because I know little about the time period, it seems, and very little about J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Thank you for reading, God Bless.
