Nethism
A correction, written by Patriarch Lord Theris Heron
To any future archivist: I implore this archive stays mindful and write the truth and not let society dictate and twist the truth.
I have read several books regarding those who are neth over the years written by those of this order who think of themselves as experts and yet the write things that seem to match whatever is popular thought at the time. However, I think as Patriarch of this current age, I need to take the opportunity to correct what I’ve found searching the stacks.
Children of Lenneth are said, by those who follow Dias teachings, are and echo of Dias. The Fenndish god is considered to be a genderless and faceless god. Therefore, nethism exists.
False:
I’m not sure how this gained popular belief in this order. Especially written by someone who think of themselves as a priest. However, nethism didn’t exist when Dias created the world. Male and female were made to give children to the land so they could all sing. The name Neth comes arose from the Priestess Lenneth and Dias honoring her, after her service to him. She sat under a tree, exhausted from all her work. She was old and tired. Dias come to take her from this world. And in her honor, it is said in Dias’s Words, Book 11, Chapter 17 at the very end:
“In service to me, you welcomed no husband and had no children. You have spread my voice and gave me children. They have heard our song. You have done well in showing them the truth and where their path lies if they continued down dark roads. The world is saved. Your legacy shall be echoed. You will have children. More children than any woman who will live. They should be born as you. And those who hear my voice will serve good causes.”
Thus, that was the time the Children of Lenneth started.
Note: Here is more history that is vague or not mentioned in a lot of text:
Children of Lenneth are birthed from. Kanu, as the prophetess Lenneth was Kanu. Elves come from the Kanu.
(So can we put to rest the argument that she had golden hair and green eyes? Her depictions by some are little depressing. She would’ve likely had dark hair and some shade of brown skin.)
Both humans and giant don’t have children of Lenneth born into their races.
Moving on.
Children of Lenneth, or neth, have no desire for marriage or having children.
False:
They prefer to live a solitary life and most of them do. They do lack the drive to reproduce. Romance, well what customary elves see as romance, isn’t something they desire either. They prefer close companionships. They can, by personal choice, not forced by obligation, wish to marry someone they have a strong affinity for.
Neth will take on a child if they can provide for them. They can form a strong attachment and bond with a child not of their blood.
Neth have no emotions.
False:
Neth are like any other elves. They have a range of emotion feeling anything between joy and rage. They do have their own brand of desires and can be quite emotional, or they can be steady and put together depending on their personality.
However, they may get to a point where they feel it’s more beneficial if they show very little. Especially if others are misreading their intent around them.
Neth are simple minded.
False:
Neth are more observant, better at solving problems, more committed to work and duty, and have a sharper focus than customary elves. This can be a blessing and a curse.
Male neth are inferior to a customary male in every way. They aren’t as strong and weak-minded.
False:
Neth males can be very robust and can be a physical powerhouse compared to many customary males. They can be very strong minded and strong willed. They are like any other male elf. Though some female elves say male neth elves can be easier to be around.
Neth can be coaxed into intimacy.
Depends:
Not all neth welcome physical touch, let alone being physically intimate with another. Some don’t mind pleasing the individual they are with and some wouldn’t dream of it. And there are some who do seek it when they feel comfortable enough with the companion they are with. However, it’s a terrible idea to force them into it. Such a thing leads to feelings of resentment towards everyone involved.
Neth are Sterile.
Depends:
Neth have two states. A rest state and a fertile state. Neth can be brought into a fertile state where they can either father or bear a child. However, that state takes some work. It’s easier for a male and a female can take more time. A trust must be formed between two individual, certain intimate rituals to change signals in the neth body, and then it’s just the typical act on top of normal elf fertility. I’ve been told its time consuming. Sometimes it isn’t worth it. See statement above.
Lovelace cures Nethism:
False:
I cannot stress this enough. I’ve read it in too many texts, seven in this archive, suggesting it temporally changes them too customary. It Does Not. The only thing lovelace and all its variety does is force them into a state without a trust formed. It creates confusion and makes them very vulnerable. Even with someone they form a trust with used it, still, it’s not good. They all tend to have an adverse reaction to lovelace. They are allergic to it.
Neth are fonts of wisdom
False:
Neth are only as intelligent as circumstance allows them to be.
Historical Facts:
Historically, elven society used to value neth individual quite a lot. Them being focused minding individual, striving to perfect a skill where see as the more superior of hard workers, experts, and council than a neth elf.
They contribute to society by being unattached because they are more flexible and able to meet demanding work than someone who had a family to worry about as well.
In ancient times, it was very common for those who were considered highborn, ancient class of nobles, to keep a neth elf as advisers. In terms of a laborer. It was said that neth were better craftsman, so neth were encouraged in skilled labor. Tanners, blacksmiths, tailors, weavers, masons, etc., were jobs encouraged and held by neth as they were thought to deliver superior work.
However, this golden age for neth ended. Population declines, and elven infertility became a problem. Not to mention feuds and dispute of discrimination began to rise on how a neth would be chosen first for apprenticeships above a normal elf.
The rise of, anti-nethism became even stronger when one particular king in the cycle took to correcting a society by giving rise to explaining how customary elves were superior to neth in every way and encouraging elves to have as many children as they could. That children would make rise to prosperity and anyone who would comply was against strengthening the country.
Golden leaf was given out to towns who employed customary elves only. In certain cities, they gave families coin for every child they have. It was the age of birthing, and values began to shift.
No longer were family looking to be blessed with a neth child. They wanted children to bear them more children. Neth was seen as a weakness, and many were forced to marry.
However, neth voices were loud in their mistreatment. Especially female neth. It was shown that female neth were unlikely to have children regardless and ended up being very unhappy in the situation they were in. They would grow resentful and then detached from their lives.
Male neths, while very resistant, seemed to adjust better. And culture shifted and settled into thoughts today.
Neth females, are allowed to pursue what they wish, however, you want the best for them and they must have training to keep them well.
Neth males are looked down on as being weak and thus should be like all other males and fulfil the duty to keep the legacy of their houses, clans, and families going.
